Escalade de bloc au parc du mont Durocher

A day of bouldering exploration at Mont Durocher Park in the Laurentians. The aim was to discover this new sector opened by the FQME. The site is really very nice for intermediate and experienced climbers and has, in my opinion, good development potential.

How to get there

Mont Durocher Park is located in Saint Adèle in the Laurentians, Quebec. It takes about 1 hour from Montreal.

Here is thePARKING LOCATION.

You shouldn't have any trouble getting there. The parking lot isn't very big, about 10 cars. Even if there are currently few climbers going there, the park remains popular for hiking. If the parking lot is full, you can park along rue Paquette (20m further on), but please do NOT park on Boul des Monts.

Access

The park is free, and there are no access fees to pay. The site is part of the FQME, so you need to be an FQME member to climb there. If you're a regular climber, I strongly advise you to join the FQME on a yearly basis, as this supports climbing in Quebec and helps develop new sites, among other things. It's also possible to join by the day if the annual membership doesn't restrict you.

The bouldering area isn't very far from the parking lot, especially compared to Parc des bouleaux. Just follow the little blue FQME signs, or the "grimpette" area on the plans.

All information is available here.

The blocks

The site features just over 25 boulders from V0 to V10. Beware, the grades are difficult and there are few routes below V4. The site is aimed more at intermediate and experienced climbers, and less at beginners.

My favorite block to date is number 14, "classique#120″. A difficult block, which I found really demanding for V2, but really beautiful. I highly recommend it.

The topo is here.

We've done a bit of exploring and I think there are still quite a few projects to open up and blocks to clear. The site has a lot of potential.

Conclusion

Another great discovery. The site is very pleasant, with lots of boulders, not too far from the parking lot. We came across a few climbers, but it's not a very busy area if you don't count the many hikers.

However, you need a certain level to enjoy bouldering in Mount Durocher Park. There are a few V0/V1/V2 climbs. But the climbs are rather difficult, a far cry from the indoor gyms.

But if you're in the area for a day of climbing, it's well worth the detour!
